Pulau Ubin: Haunted German Doll

Pulau Ubin: Haunted German Doll Shrine

Expedition Date: 8th December 2011

Location:
Pulau Ubin, Offshore island off Singapore. Take a bum boat from Changi Ferry Terminal at Changi Village.

Entrance:
From the disembarkation point at Ubin ferry terminal, it is a long walk to the site approximately 1 hour. You could rent a bicycle or a van to take you to the location.Go by Jalan Jelutung and Jalan Edaud Senin and will take you past a chalet resort go past that towards Ketam quarry bicycle trail and you could see a small red hut. The door is open always but Do Not Touch anything inside! You won't get lost because there are road markers and at a junction there is a small yellow sign post showing the direction to the site.

Overview:
The shrine is only one of the places in Pulau Ubin we explored. The journey itself is an adventure into another era filled with mysteries and wonder. The haunted doll is a feature on a website as one of the most haunted doll in the world. http://www.hauntedamericatours.com/ghostdolls.php and we also visit the shrine of the stone which is nearby.

The Mystery:
Why is it called the German Girl shrine?
Does the doll really exist?
Why do they worship a barbie doll instead of usual deities?
Do they worship a strange stone?
Does the mysterious granite stone exist in the first place?
Is there a place on the island called bukit coffee cemetery and is it related to Kopi Hill Cemetery(Bukit Brown)?

The Myth:
Is the doll really haunted?
Do people get possessed and speak in German when they touch the stone?
The island is said to be filled with a demon called the "Pocong" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocong

The Experiment:
In order to prove the theory that anyone stay alone in the German Girl hut gets possessed. One of our brave team member tried it out.

The goal:
To find out if the doll, the stone and the Kopi hill and Bukit Coffee  connection is true.

The Video:

The Results:
Although tired from the expedition we were fired up from the data we collected and a successful test of our infra red cam.
We have great success in this expedition although some were really unexpected, we have ample footage of a possession, the doll itself, the mystery stone worshippers Bukit Coffee Cemetery, photos of a shrouded figure, photo of orbs which gather to form a figure.

The Findings:

The Mystery:
The Doll does exist, it sits in the middle of the altar, surrounded by offerings of baby power, make up kits, perfume , beer and other things. Other deities filled the hut but as I say the doll is the centre piece. The hut is well maintained and fresh offerings can be seen.

From newspaper clippings found on the wall and a search in the archives its called the German Girl Shrine  because during World War 1 a German family lived in in Pulau Ubin tried to flee from the British. In her haste she fell to her death in the quarry below. Her body was found and covered with sand and the offer her offerings when they past by.
A group of Chinese worker moved her remains to the top of the quarry and gave her a proper burial.
On 1974 her remains, which left only hair and bones were moved to the hut, places in an urn and there she remained till today, so we believed! But the urn was either stolen or simply disappear no one knows.

Not much is known about the doll being the centrepiece of the altar, but from my you tube viewers comment, it is said the doll is the vessel of the German girl spirit. The other reason is that a man, a caretaker of the temple, dream of the dead girl wanting the doll and when her went to mainland Singapore her found the exact doll and bought it believing the girls spirit is in the doll.

Behind the shrine, we also found the mysterious stone worshipped by devotees. The stone does exist , it is believed that the German girl died on that rock. Under Ultraviolet light no bloodstains were found on the rock itself. There are offerings around the stone showing that it is also worshipped.

And finally Bukit Coffee Cemetery does exist but it is not related to Kopi Hill (Bukit Brown) Cemetery but both was a coffee plantation and both was and still is a Chinese cemetery.

The Myth:
There is a strange vibes towards the dolls as or team member investigates, it is as if the doll was looking into their soul instead of us looking at it. One of our team member was possessed but I don't think it was from the doll.

I personally touch the stone but no, I didn't get possessed in any way

On our return journey we were directed to another route following a mysterious singing in the dense forest, it leads us to Coffee hill cemetery and one of our team members got possessed or something. He still follow the sound to an off beaten track deep in the forest and ended up by the sea and the mysterious sound wasn't so mysterious anymore because it was coming from a Kelong http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelong somewhere in Malaysia. During our journey our photographer did managed to snapped some picture of a mysterious shrouded figure, it could be anything or it could be the notorious pocong. You decide.

Another photo taken was near an open field behind the shrine. When analysing the photo of what appear to be orbs sing an  image analyser program the few photos containing the orbs seems to gather forming a human figure. Creepy. But it is open for interpretations.

The Experiment:
No video feeds of the experiment and team member doesn't feel any presence in the hut. Batteries are full and memory card is still available but no feed. Unexplained but could be magnetic interference in the hut.

Conclusion:
Jammed pack island full of mysteries, We would be visiting the island soon and next time we will bring the full gear, motion sensors, laser tripwires, EMF meters, laser thermometer and thermal camera.
We will be trying a seance in the middle of the so called black magic Muslim graves.
Stay Tuned.

Suicide Tower

Suicide Tower: Pasir Ris Swamp

Expedition Date: 10th November 2011

Location:
Pasir Ris swamp, behind E-Hub, next to Aranda Country Club.

Entrance:
Its also a public area, so it can be accessed anytime. You have to walk along the pathway to the centre of the swamp and you will find a structure, designed fro bird watchers.

Overview:
It is believed that the tower is a location of a girl who jumped to her death because of heartbreak. Ever since people have seen the apparition of the dead girl there. SPI www.spi.com.sg/ Visit and conduct investigations, capture a picture of the dead girl face on the ceiling.

The Mystery:
Is there really a suicide case on the stated area?
Why is it called the suicide tower?

The Myth:
Does the spirit of the girl really does roam the area and never leave?
Does people get possessed when they are in the tower at midnight?

The Experiment:
Ouija board! Yes we made our own board in order to contact the dead girl spirit or any kind of spirit in the tower.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouija

The Goal:
We want communicate with the spirit using a well known western medium.

The Video:
No Video Available As Our Cams Power Was Drained Even Before We Started.

Results:
Well as usual nothing except for some EVP en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_voice_phenomenon recorded on one of our members phone which sounded like a cry from a baby. We debunked it as just random noise, unfortunately it was accidentally deleted.

Findings:

The Mystery:
A search on the net, media and a local law enforcement officer contact shows no record of a suicide in the mentioned site.

The name is actually created by some kids and it is based on the suicide girl story. An urban legend but if anyone knows of the actual event that occurred there. Come forward and email me for a follow up.

The Myth:
No ghost no spirits no possession. Well another urban legend,

The Experiment:
Ouija board was tested many times and with different members but no effect. I tried it myself and nothing. Its my believe that the medium for calling spirits doesn't work or there is no such thing as spirits.

Conclusion:
The place does have a high magnetic interference because our electronic equipments are all drained out faster than normal. Our team member feel lethargic after the expedition and this usually happens only in pasir ris area.

Bukit Brown Cemetary

Bukit Brown Cemetery

Expedition Date:
3rd November 2011

Location:
Junction of Adam Road Lornie Road. Opposite Singapore Island Country Club. Nearby private residence.

Entrance:
No breaking and entering no breaking the law its open for public. Just follow the graves by the side of the road in and turn left you can't miss the big gates. Lots of paranormal groups, thrill seekers and adventurers in the area at night but the place is big enough to get lost. Beware some tracks will take you way off course.

Overview:
It's an old Chinese cemetery almost a hundred years of history and source of spooks for generations. Sadly the place is scheduled to be taken over by the state for development.

The Mystery:
Is there a figure of a Sikh security guard, guarding the graves?
Do people go there to pray at 0000Hrs and for what reason?
An old haunted temple?

The Myth:
It is said that this cemetery is a favourite haunting of a popular ghost in the Malay community called the "Pontianak" or a vampire.

The Experiment:
If you sit alone on a grave at night, and called out to the name on the inscriptions, surrounded by lighted candles, the spirit of the dead will appear and grant your wishes.

The Goal:
As usual we try to detect, record or capture any supernatural entity in the area and get a feel of the cemetery before the bulldozers came.

The Video:

Results:
We crossed path with some thrill seekers, paranormal group, as expected but a detour we took leads us deeper into the dense forested area with more graves. Some of the members requested to turn back because we don;t know where the track leads us. The want to appear on a website not obituaries. We back track, lost our way again but found our way to a large double grave where we set our experiment. Video editing was  uploaded but received negative comment. I don't know watch and see.

Findings:

The Mystery:
The is a Sikh figure guarding some of the graves because in the past, Sikh community are well known to work as guards or " Bai Jaga" .Therefore, they might be erected to scare unwelcome visitors away into thinking there is a guard watching over the grave of their loved ones. It's not an afterlife thing because for the Chinese community, all thing to be brought to the afterlife are burnt.

Yes, we did encounter some fresh offerings to the dead way past midnight. Most probably asking for lottery numbers. Favourite Singaporean past time 4D.

The place is too big to find the temple or the famous broken gates. As time is not on our side, we did not venture further.

The Myth:
No lady in white, no blood sucking vampire nothing  except for some owl and dogs howling.

Experiment Results:
We have two people doing the experiment due to safety reasons. They mention the heard footsteps and flickering candles. See the video for more on the experiment. No spirits make a special guest appearance though.

Conclusion:
A great place to explore and have some spooks because it is creepy at night on an ancient grave. Go there before it is too late. Some weird entity caught on still photo but is subjected to individual interpretation.

Soong Sisters Mansion

Soong Sisters Mansion Expedition

Expedition Date:
22nd October 2011

Location:
25 Grange Road, Junction of  Orchard Road next to Indian Embassy. You cannot see the mansion from the main road its just the small gate with a red sign. No Trespassing owner of 25 Grange Road.Corner of Grange and Devonshire Roads, opposite the Youth Park.

Entrance:
As I say before its a Private Property, Enter At Your Own Risk. Few ways to enter the compound, climb the gate BEWARE OF BARBWIRE, a small hole in the fence beside the gate or a makeshift plywood "door" to cover an opening right next to the Indian embassy guard house. Once in the compound walk up the steep hill and you will be greeted by the majestic mansion. We found our way in the mansion by going up the spiral staircase which is highly unstable and through a glass window.

Overview:
Total of 3 mansions in the area but the first which I believe to be just at the road side has CCTV and someone living there. A really large place to explore best to split up if you have a large group.

The Mystery:
Why isn't the land in prime district not taken by the government to develop?
Who owns these magnificent structure? Soong Sisters?
What is with the large numbers of large vases?
Why is the 2nd house burnt to crisp the 1st and 2nd left intact?

The Myth:
Spirit of Catherine still roam the house she committed suicide by burning herself?
Voices of talking, fighting in the compound, people playing soccer and cricket?
Shadows of humanoid figure moving within the belly of the monstrous mansion?
Strong smell of cooking and always around 2am as if the site was resurrected back to life?
Disembodied head looking for blood???(Brought up by one of our NPT member)

The Experiment:
Spirits, ghosts, demons are said to be attracted by the blood of menses. One of our NPT member is having a period during this expedition. We shall see!

The Goal:
Thoroughly explore the mansions to see if there is any presence and to see if the experiment came through.

The Video:

Results:
A decent looking video from inside the mansion, exploring, loads of picture, more NPT members involved. Vases are there but they moved it in the house. The Mansion is huge with lots of room to explore, halls, passageways, rooms leading to another rooms. Certain rooms have the inscription of Allah on the walls and doors scribbled in pencil and some, well satanic graffiti. The grand staircase leads to the 1st floor hall which now holds the vases. Really creepy if you are alone. Video footage ends as camera battery depletes. Beneath the staircase where we exit the mansion, a rude shock awaits us. Read on to know what.
Mansion 2 was to dangerous to access but we did venture only the 1st floor but we withdrew as it looked really unstable as it was eaten away by fire. Do Not Go In Mansion 2 Dangerous!

Findings:

Mystery:
Another check with SLA(they are getting fed up with me) shows that the place is Chee Guan Chiang House. The first chairman of the OCBC group eldest son. It was designed and built around 1930. It is up for sale for almost a billion dollars on 2011.

The vases are nothing but vessels by landscape designer to hold trees and plants for nearby area.

The fire in the 2nd mansion remains a mystery but a check with online community that somebody really died in that house which cause the owner to move out of Singapore.

Myth:
As I say before a check from online community that somebody did died in the fire in mansion 2 but don't know who. We did not feel any supernatural presence. And I don't know who Catherine is

The smell of cooking, chattering, sound of people playing crickets and all that was actually some bangladeshi worker who takes refuge within the mansion. We found them cowering in their blankets, beds and these smart people tapped electricity from god knows where to power their fridge, tv, phones. No Ghost just Bangla!

The name Soong Sisters was actually created by an agent of SPI Singapore Paranormal Investigators because the 3 mansions resembles the legendary Soong Sisters. See more on SPI Website.http://www.spi.com.sg/

And finally, no disembodied head floating around.

Experiment Results:

The female NPT member is still alive and kicking. No possession, demon or creature of the night was attracted to her bloody presence.

Conclusion:
Abandoned mansions without any supernatural elements except for legal or illegal immigrants staying for shelter in Singapore prime district.
